New Student Council Members and Their Future Goals

Andrew Erickson, Student Journalist

The annual student council elections were held on May 24th in the gymnasium. Each candidate spoke about individual qualities that they have that would benefit the school. Also, candidates spoke about policies they think need improving. There were ten candidates who spoke in front of the whole school. Out of those candidates, six were chosen for the 2022-2023 school year. The candidates that were chosen were Cash Vaughan (11th), Mary Redmore (11th), Cecilia Leonard (12th), Ashton McCann (12th), Olivia Leuci (12th), and Maya Lalor (12th).

Cash Vaughan is a rising junior at SCC. He is actively involved in the Seton community. He participates in Soccer and Lacrosse. Cash was in the student council last year and helped create the social media platform for the student council. On Instagram, the student council page Seton Catholic Central has over 500 followers and has successfully reported and informed community members on activities and games. An awesome aspect of the social media page is the Student Council members would interview the MVP of their own specific game they attended. Cash plans on running this page and spending more time uploading posts. He says” we plan on increasing the output and quality of posts next year”

Mary Redmore is also a rising junior at SCC. She was on the student council this past year and is looking forward to next year. She is very involved with the Seton Community as she is a part of the girl’s lacrosse, basketball, and tennis team. This past year she was very involved with the Instagram page, interviewing students and publishing content on the page. Mary was also on the student council last year when she made a school welcome video which took a lot of work, and she plans on adding to that for this upcoming year.

Cecilia Leonard is a rising Senior at SCC. She was also a part of the student council this past year and was a large part of the social media team on the student council. She is an active member of the community and she plays softball. Cecilia loves the SCC fan club and she leads most of the chants during games. She plans to increase the number of fan club students to boost school spirit.

Olivia Leuci is a rising senior at SCC. This will be her first year on the student council. She is an active member of the Seton community. She plans on improving Seton by being a representative of the student body to administrators and school leaders. She feels there is a lack of representation of students to the decision-makers of the school, she felt she could fill that void we as a school are missing.

Maya Lalor is a rising senior at SCC who will embark upon her first year on the student council. She is actively involved in the community and is a part of the girls’ lacrosse team. Maya plans on making a positive impact during her last year at Seton by implementing a “dance team” that would coordinate dances and make sure students’ needs were met at dances. This is a result of the 2022 Spring Fling when the dance in the cafeteria was very hot and there was no water for any students. We were all looking towards the student council to provide water, but it didn’t happen.

Last, Ashton McCann is a rising senior at SCC. This will be his first year of the student council. He is actively involved in the Seton community and is on the track team. Ashton also is the lead drummer in Seton’s pep band which leads the boy’s basketball team in warmups. Ashton is looking forward to leading the fan club and being a member of the “dance team” Maya Lalor proposed for helping out at dances.

Each of our new student council members is a well-respected student who excels in whatever they do. We can’t wait to see what these new members do for Seton next year!
